Emergency Gas and Water Pipe Repair After Ceiling Leak in Roanhead
Responding to an Emergency Ceiling Leak in Roanhead
A homeowner in Roanhead contacted us for an emergency callout after water began leaking through the ceiling of their property.
The problem was traced back to damaged pipework after gas and water pipes had been driven through, leaving both systems requiring immediate attention. The customer had already drained down the water system before we arrived, helping to limit further damage.
How We Did It
Step 1 — Locating the Damaged Pipework
We responded to the emergency callout and inspected the area around the ceiling leak to establish exactly what had happened.
The inspection identified damaged water and gas pipework that had been driven through, allowing us to determine which sections needed to be removed and replaced.
Step 2 — Cutting Out and Replacing the Pipework
With the water system already drained down, we cut out the damaged water pipework and rebuilt the affected section to restore a secure connection.
The damaged gas pipe was also cut out and repaired separately, allowing both services to be reinstated correctly rather than attempting to work around compromised pipework.
Step 3 — Filtering, Refilling and Safety Testing
Once the repairs were complete, we refilled the water system and checked the repaired pipework to make sure there were no further leaks.
The system was filtered as part of the work, while the repaired gas pipework underwent the appropriate gas testing before the supply was returned to normal operation.
The Work
Responding to the Emergency Leak
The homeowner had discovered water coming through the ceiling and contacted us for an emergency callout. They had already taken the sensible step of draining down the water system before we arrived.
Our first job was to inspect the affected area and determine the source of the leak. We found that pipework had been driven through, damaging both a water pipe and a gas pipe in the process.
Repairing the Water Pipework
The damaged section of water pipe was cut out rather than left in place, allowing us to rebuild the pipework properly and remove the compromised section completely.
Once the new pipework was installed, the system could be refilled and checked for leaks. The system was also filtered as part of getting the heating and water installation back into proper working order.
Repairing and Testing the Gas Supply
The damaged gas pipework was cut out and replaced separately, ensuring the affected section was repaired correctly before the gas supply was put back into use.
A gas test was then carried out on the system to confirm the repaired installation was sound and safe before the job was completed.
The Results
The emergency repair stopped the ceiling leak and restored both the property's water and gas systems without leaving the damaged sections of pipework in place.
The affected water pipework was cut out and rebuilt, the system was refilled and filtered, and the gas pipework was repaired before being fully tested.
By addressing both issues during the same callout, the homeowner was able to get the property back into normal operation with the repaired systems checked before we left.
Following the work, the homeowner was happy with the service and has since become a repeat customer, returning to us for further plumbing and heating work.
